Dave Leitao and his coaching staff at DePaul deserve a ton of credit when it comes to the pursuit of their top recruiting priorities in the 2016 class.  Yes, they missed out on a few, but in the end they always had alternative options.  And those options have led to the foundation of what looks to be a most successful recruiting class.

We say this in light of the fact that Leitao and the Blue Demons secured 2016 commitments today in the form of a pair of teammates at LaLumiere Academy in La Porte, IN--6'6 power forward Al Eichelberger and 6'4 2-guard Brandon Cyrus.  Eichelberger pledged first early this afternoon and Cyrus followed suit a few hours later.

Both Eichelberger and Cyrus took official visits to DePaul the weekend of October 23-25 and at that time Illinois Prep Bulls-eye was well-aware of the package deal possibility to the point of even hinting at it (  Eichelberger ended up selecting the Blue Demons over scholarship offers from several other D1 programs while Cyrus chose DePaul over offers from Texas A&M, TCU, St. Bonaventure and Nevada among others.

Eichelberger hails from Michigan and was at Saginaw High School before coming to LaLumiere.  He is a strong 4-man who will provide the Blue Demons with additional toughness on the interior.  Above all else, he is a very good low post defender and a capable scorer around the basket.

Cyrus, meanwhile, arrived at LaLumiere from San Diego and is a versatile guard with considerable athleticism.  He has a great deal of scoring ability and is an adept defender at either guard spot.  Not only that, but he is the type of player that Leitao and DePaul can definitely look to as their future team leader.

In both instances, Cyrus and Eichelberger cited their strong relationship with the Blue Demons coaching staff as being the instrumental factor in their recruiting decisions.  There is no question that Cyrus is being regarded as the cornerstone of DePaul's 2016 class, but Eichelberger is certainly not a bad sidekick.

The Blue Demons now have a total of three commitments in their 2016 recruiting class with Cyrus and Eichelberger in the fold.  They join 6'2 point guard Devin Gage who pledged to DePaul back in June.
