In the recruiting world nothing beats receiving good news all at once, and that is exactly what happened today at DePaul.  That is because within a short span of 3 hours Blue Demons head coach Dave Leitao learned that he had added a key transfer in 6'5 2-guard Austin Grandstaff as well as his first commitment from the 2017 class in 5'11 point guard Justin Roberts from Pike High School in Indianapolis.

Roberts was offered by DePaul back in March and made his decision official on Twitter today after completing an unofficial visit to the Lincoln Park campus yesterday.  He had also received scholarship offers from Bradley and IUPUI in addition to interest from a number of other high major programs.

Among the factors that were influential in Roberts choosing DePaul were his strong relationship with the Blue Demons coaching staff, location including proximity to home and the fact that he loves Chicago, and DePaul being a perfect fit for him academically.  However, there is no question that the biggest selling point was that Roberts has the opportunity to step in and get immediate playing time at the point guard position, perhaps even being able to start from the get-go.

Roberts has had an outstanding Spring on the travel team circuit for the Spiece Indy Heat.  Above all else, he is a pure point guard who makes good decisions.  He is an outstanding passer in addition to possessing excellent scoring ability.  Simply put, he has all the tools that Leitao and his staff were looking for in a point guard, which is why he was DePaul's #1 recruiting priority at the point guard spot in 2017.

Roberts' commitment comes on the heels of the Blue Demons also landing Grandstaff, who announced that he is transferring to DePaul after initially planning on playing at Oklahoma.  Grandstaff's first college stop was at Ohio State, where he played in a total of ten games.  He will have three years of eligibility at DePaul beginning in 2017-18.

There is no question that DePaul is loading up on transfers in the hope of being able to get back to prominence in the Big East conference.  In addition to Grandstaff, Western Kentucky transfer Chris Harrison-Docks will be eligible to play for the Blue Demons this upcoming season as a graduate transfer and Lewis University transfer Max Strus will be eligible beginning in the 2017-18 season.

Moreover, the commitments from Grandstaff and Roberts come at what may be the most important recruiting period of all from a DePaul standpoint.  They give Leitao and the Blue Demons considerable momentum and something to build on even further as they prepare for their Team Camp which will take place June 20 and 21st at Quest Multisport on Chicago's west side and then of course the critical July evaluation period.
