Class Of 2010 Player Watch: Dwayne Evans

Dwayne Evans, a 6'5 class of 2010 forward from Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, IL is one of those players who seems to get better with every game that you watch him. Sure enough, Evans was sensational tonight in leading Neuqua Valley to a 68-65 victory over a talented Bolingbrook squad. Evans finished with 23 points on 9-13 shooting to go along with 8 rebounds.
Right now we regard Evans as a 3/4 combo who does the majority of his damage around the basket. He is tremendously strong, does an outstanding job of establishing post position and has great hands. As a result, he finishes with regularity and is virtually automatic when he gets the ball anywhere in the paint.
However, the area where Evans has made the most significant improvement is on the perimeter. He has shown that he can consistently put the ball on the floor and has also begun to develop shooting range that extends beyond the 3-point arc. These are the biggest reasons why Evans continues to raise his stock and why we ultimately see him as being an ideal small forward at the next level.
One school that is recruiting Evans extremely hard is Northwestern and there is no question that the Wildcat coaching staff has been extremely visible when it comes to watching Evans play. Head coach Bill Carmody watched Evans when Neuqua Valley defeated Morton at the York Thanksgiving Tournament and assistant coach Ivan Vujic took in Evans' performance vs. Bolingbrook. Evans is also being recruited by Loyola-Chicago, Wisconsin-Green Bay and Northern Illinois among others.
Not only has Evans gotten off to a strong start since the beginning of the 2008-09 high school basketball in Illinois, but he turned in several solid performances this past spring and summer on the traveling team circuit while playing for the 16-Under Illinois Warriors. Needless to say, we believe that Evans is a player that everyone will be hearing a lot more from in the future.
