Update: Tony Nixon

As the result of a spectacular month of July in which he came up big in several prime time events, 6'5 class of 2009 guard Tony Nixon from Seton Academy in South Holland, IL has continued to add to his list scholarship offers.  The most recent schools to come forward with offers to Nixon include Fresno State and Texas-El Paso

While Nixon still has several suitors pursuing him, one school that is no longer recruiting him is Southern Illinois.  Although the Salukis offered Nixon early, after receiving a commitment from 5'8  Kendall Brown who attends Harrison High School in Evansville, IN head coach Chris Lowery and his coaching staff have pretty much ended their recruitment of guards in the 2009 class.

In addition to Fresno State and UTEP, other schools who have offered Nixon and remain in the running for his services include Northern Illinois (who Nixon visited this past week), Illinois State, Loyola-Chicago, Illinois-Chicago, Murray State, Drake, Howard, and Montana State.

Nixon has proven to be one of the premier 3-point shooters in the state of Illinois and was especially instrumental in helping to lead his Mac Irvin Fire 17-Under traveling team to the final four at the NIKE Main Event in Las Vegas.

Additional Note

Rising Stars C.E.O. Mike Weinstein informed us today that there are some mid-major D1 programs that appear reluctant to offer scholarships to the marquee players on his Rising Stars Gold 16-Under squad because of the belief that they will in all likelihood end up at the high-major level.  Weinstein said this is especially true regarding 6'5 Alex Rossi from New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL and 6'2 Ben Brust from Mundelein High School in Mundelein, IL.  He would like for it to be known  that all of his players will entertain and strongly consider offers from all schools, regardless of whether they are mid-major or high-major.  With that being said, Indiana State is the latest school to come forward with offers to both Rossi and Brust.
