While there was plenty of individual talent on hand at the University of Illinois Satellite Camp at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, other than Illini class of 2011 point guard commit Tracy Abrams from Mt. Carmel, we thought that the best players at the event from start to finish were Foreman High School's dynamic duo of 6'2 class of 2010 point guard Lavonte Dority and 6'1 class of 2010 combo guard Mike McCall.
Dority and McCall worked together like clockwork throughout the two day camp at Moody and as a result turned in some stellar performances. In doing so, we believe that they have proven themselves worthy of being called the best back court duo in the state of Illinois at the present time. There is absolutely no doubt in our mind that both of them are high major prospects.
What make Dority and McCall a terrific guard combination above everything else is that they feed off of one another. Each one is a perfect compliment to the other's game. As a result, it has reached the point where they are interchangable on the floor and both are capable of playing either guard spot. They are equally effective with the ball in their hands or playing the off-guard spot.
There is no question that the one who has benefitted the most from all of this is McCall. Up until now Dority has long been regarded as Foreman's point guard, with McCall being labeled a 2-guard. However, McCall has improved his point guard skills tremendously, which in our opinion is the biggest reason why his stock is on the rise. Both he and Dority seem to know where one another is on the floor at all times and as a result they have helped make each other better players, which greatly explains why they have elevated their games tremendously.
The bottom line is that there is no substitute for experience. Dority and McCall have manned the back court together at Foreman ever since they first arrived at the north side school and showed tremendous maturity over the course of this past spring. Their primary mission heading into next season is to lead Foreman to a Chicago Public League championship and hopefully a birth in the finals of the Class 4A state tournament.
Perhaps the only unanswered question that remains with respect to both Dority and McCall's games is whether either one is capable of taking over a game individually when the other is not on the floor. Nevertheless, that is a mute point in comparison with why they are a spectacular back court pair and how important both of them are to Foreman's overall team success.
Recruiting-wise, Dority's suitors include Baylor, New Mexico, DePaul, Northwestern, Indiana and Marquette, with sources telling us that Dority will visit the Golden Eagles next week. McCall attended Texas A&M University's elite camp and there are many who believe that the Aggies could be at the forefront of McCall's recruitment. That not withstanding, an assistant coach at Foreman who is close to McCall's recruitment told us that if a certain program from a high major conference offers McCall that it could be all over. Hmmm...we find that very interesting, so stay tuned!
